The loved ones of young people lost after a deadly blaze at a venue in a Swiss alpine town are facing an painful wait for official news and appealing for clues about their children publicly.

The fire engulfed the a popular bar in the alpine resort, located in the Swiss Alps of south-west Switzerland, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Verified footage show the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with fireworks are held aloft.

Officials have indicated that it could take considerable time to formally name the those who perished of the tragedy, which killed 40 people and hurt another scores more. Officials stated on Friday that the majority of the those hurt have been accounted for, with efforts still underway to locate the other six.
